Books

Here are a few books I enjoyed reading recently...

Watching the English - Kate Fox: All you ever wanted to know about the British behaviour, from the logic of weather-talk to the origin of the sense of humour.

The Time Traveller's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger: A magical tale of love and longing.

His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman: science-fiction/fantasy trilogy in which you cut into worlds, meet bears with armours and discover your daemon... You won't look at dust in the same way ever again.

The English Patient - Michael Ondaatje:
A villa in Italy after the war. An Italian spy, a mysterious explorer of the Sahara, a Canadian nurse, and an Indian bomb disposal expert.

The Bookseller of Kabul - Asne Seierstad:
An Afghan family in Kabul. The patriarch rules, the boys don't go to school and the young woman slaves in the kitchen.

Norwegian Wood - Haruki Murakami: a crazy teenage love story written with honesty.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time - Mark Haddon: "Who on earth is going to want to read about a fifteen-year-old kid with a disability living in Swindon with his father?" asks the author.
