Here are a few films worth seeing...

My Life Without Me - Isabel Coixet: a mother of two living in a trailer discovers that she's terminally ill. It could be the most depressing movie ever, but it turns out to be a story about love, hope, and ordinarily life with extraordinary actors.

Gadjo Dilo - Tony Gatlif: a young man somewhere in Eastern Europe is looking for a mysterious singer... and discovers love and Roma culture.

Edward Scissorhands - Tim Burton: a modern fairy tale set in perfect suburbia made especially for teenagers.

The Philadelphia Story - George Cukor: with Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart and Cary Grant - they all get married, they all get drunk: probably my favourite Hollywood movie...

Spirited Away- Hayao Miyazaki: young Chihiro sees her parents turned into pigs and enter the magical world of Japanese deities, with River spirits trying to wash themselves out of pollution and so many other wonders...

L'Auberge Espagnole - Cédric Klapish: lucky european students having survived the Erasmus application form share a flat in Barcelona, learn about their differences and between two nights in the ramblas go to the fuck... to study in catalan.

Planet Earth - BBC series: a great nature documentary, with beautiful photography and amazing images of rare animals like the snow leopard and weird ones like Borneo's birds of paradise.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Michel Gondry: a lovely romantic comedy with a difference - full of poetry and imagination rather than the usual stupid clichés.

In the Name of the Father - Jim Sheridan: A classic, essential viewing for those interested in the danger of governmental power and propaganda when a country is hit by terrorism - only this time round, it's about IRA and innocent lives destroyed by the big machine.

Confessions of a Dangerous Man - George Clooney: ER George is also a director, and this is one of is most interesting projects: an adaptation of the memoir of game show impresario Chuck Barris, in which he purports to have been a CIA hitman.

My Neighbour Totoro - Hayao Miyazaki: Meet the wonderful forest spirits and little sooty balls that haunts a house in the country side. Deceptively simple fairy tale = animation masterpiece.

Peau d'Ane - Jacque Demy: Catherine Deneuve stars in the French classic musical, hiding under a donkey's skin to escape her mad father. Totally mad, totally charming.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Ang Lee: fighting scenes and martial art techniques become elements of a beautiful choreography, set in China's wonderful and varied landscape, with too amazing heroines.

North by Northwest - Alfred Hitchcock: a thrilling chase accross the States that ends up on Mount Rushmore, with Cary Grant as an advertising exec mistaken for a spie. One of the first action movies...

Les Petites Couleurs - Patricia Plattner: a delightful Swiss film set in the French countryside, about the difficulties of real life and the charms of telenovelas. Outstanding actors.

Six Feet Under - Alan Ball: my favourite American tv series. Welcome to the tragi-comic world of an undertaker's family. Just remember: every day above ground is a good one.
